The Candle was recently included in a post-wedding recap on bouquetcatcher.com. Tim & Maddie hosted a beautiful wedding, and we were honored to play our part in it. Here’s a little taste of the review: “The official reception celebration was kicked off by a fun live band called We, Unity Candle. The band performs quirky, nontraditional wedding music, including a lineup of classic rock songs. ‘It was the most fun day ever,’ Maddie said.” Read the full review »

The candle kicked-off the this year’s wedding season with two sets at Indie Wed, THE alternative to traditional wedding expos. This is our third year of playing this excellent show, and it just keeps getting better and better. We shared the stage with a number of great bands, and it’s always great to see all of the tasteful and creative offerings that the rest of the Chicago alt-wedding crowd has to offer. They typically have a summer show as well, so check out http://indiewed.com in the coming months for more details.

To be perfectly honest, we played enough great weddings in 2013 that we lost track of this website. Luckily, our Facebook feed has remained active all along—so if you’re looking for a recap of our recent exploits, spend a few minutes catching up on a year that saw us rocking as far North as Door County, Wisconsin and as far above the dance floor as we’ve ever been. We can’t wait to see what new heights the candle will reach in 2014, so stay tuned for more frequent updates!

With more events on the calendar this year than ever before, 2012 will be a bright one for the candle. We played our first wedding of the season, a uniquely personal event hosted at the Mayne Stage, an impressive new venue in Rogers Park. Amanda Megan Miller took some stunning photos to immortalize the occasion. This was a big night to kick off a big year. To stay up to date, why not sign up for our newsletter?

You’ve asked for them, we’ve recorded them.
A few weeks back, we laid down a handful of new tracks at the beautiful Minbal recording studio in Chicago. After working on the details for the past few weekends, we’re proud to announce the release of our first official demo album.

It’s been a busy spring so far. We just played a beautiful wedding in Indianapolis at the Scottish Rite Cathedral Ballroom. Last weekend, we visited our pal (and client) Benjamin Balcom at his Minbal recording studio to record a handful of new demos for our songbook. To keep the excitement going, we’re playing a short set to open up for the musical production Passing Strange, presented by the Bailiwik Theater Company. And later this summer, we’ll be participating in the next Indie Wed wedding show.
That said, if you have a special day coming up that warrants some special rock, you shouldn’t hesitate to contact us.

The boys totally rocked my fat ass with the custom TMBG and Weezer. Aside from a real life female willing to marry me without coercion, those tunes were my only other prerequisite for a perfect wedding.
PS: I have heard many sick reviews of your 5/7 gig. So sick, in fact, that as a doctor I would be remiss to not put them on antibiotics. Here’s one from our photogs page: “We’ve seen a few wedding bands in our Saturday night travels and We, Unity Candle is simply the most badass non-wedding, wedding band EVER “Wedding, but awesome” is absolutely right!”

We, Unity Candle is the best wedding band ever! We knew how amazing and talented Aaron, Dan, Mason, Nate, and Randy were going into our wedding, but we had no idea how absolutely perfect they would make our reception music. Multiple people (including our venue manager, a musician himself, who has listened to a lot of wedding bands throughout his career) told us that the Candle was the greatest band they had ever heard at a wedding. Our dance floor was PACKED all night long. More »

Aside from being one of the most talented group of musicians I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, We, Unity Candle are incredibly professional, reliable and easy to work with; traits that are so important when you’re working to plan a wedding. They were always available to speak with us in the months, weeks and days leading up to our wedding, and were always willing to work with us to ensure that our wedding day would be exactly what we had imagined. On the day of our wedding, they were ready to rock before the caterer had even finished setting up the room. More »

Another weekend, another beautiful wedding. This one was set in the heart of Chicago at an incredible space called Prairie Productions. The ceremony was held outside and featured a stripped-down version of the Candle playing acoustic arrangements chosen by the bride and groom (we even had a chance to break out the upright bass and accordion). Then, after dinner, we turned up the volume and rocked the reception late into the evening. We even had the groom join us for a surprise dedication and performance of Wilco’s I Got You for his lovely new bride. We had a great time, and from the looks of the dance floor, so did the rest of the guests.
